I've released the second beta of XQuartz 2.7.10. The main changes since the previous beta include:
fixes for TCP connections
enabling of IGLX support
the stuck "h" after hiding bug
improved WM_PROTOCOLS support
fixed a buffer overrun in libXfont
various package version updates.

Hi,
Post by Jeremy Huddleston Sequoia
the stuck "h" after hiding bug
which is the prime fix I've been awaiting all this time e.g. many *years*
but
Post by Jeremy Huddleston Sequoia
OS X 10.8.5 or later is required to install this package.
which eliminates me testing it
as I am still running SL/10.6.8
(still on disability with no end in sight etc etc etc
[yes still alive but now Mozilla is producing much-more grief]).
How can I test this fix, please?

The betas require 10.8.x because of their dependency on ASan.

Sorry, but you'll have to wait for 2.6.10_rc1 to test the fix. If you're willing to use MacPorts, I can push the change into MacPorts xorg-server-devel port.

I hope it's common knowledge why I am (still) on Disability,
mentioned it here albeit rarely.

Secondly, the Zilla™ folk have begun axing us po'peeps,
as guugle™ and other projects have already done.
I've publicly written about it here,

Thirdly, GMane.org owner wants to take it down.
The maillist-to-news gateway server has been allowed to continue
(which I mainly use to read the lists for many projects including this one).
More about this here,

For a direct answer,
in the past I've made it clear that I've had to build/compile all projects by hand,
because I've already upgraded e.g. Perl and other parts using third-party pkgs from ActiveState and others
to the point MacPorts/Fink/HomeBrew/etc won't work reliably if at all.
But I must depend on _your_ builds for XQuartz etc
so I eagerly await it for compatibility with OSX-10.6 .
FWIW it was _me_ who started the rukkus about the "stuck 'h'" problem several years ago
AFAICT
altho others have chimed-in also;
it is still occurring here so am still awaiting a fix.

That's all I have (energy for) for now.
Please don't forsake us po'peeps.

TY

This sparkled its way onto my mac just now, but won’t launch properly. Error in console log is:

17/06/2016 14:36:21.860 com.apple.launchd.peruser.502[175]: (org.macosforge.xquartz.startx[34868]) Job failed to exec(3). Setting up event to tell us when to try again: 2: No such file or directory

There is some sort of running process (dock icon is lit) but finder says it is unresponsive. top shows

34867 X11.bin 0.0 00:00.00 1 0 7 163985 532K 472K 0B
34832 X11.bin 0.0 00:00.19 2 0 34 163982 13M 264K 0B

Needless to say I haven’t changed anything X-related since the previous version was working just fine.

Suggestions? Anything I could useful do/send to debug this?

many thanks,

I’m not sure what this is supposed to do, so I tried launchctl list | grep startx and got
- 2 org.macosforge.xquartz.startx

however, I manually killed all the X11 running jobs before I left work today so that may be all the “2” is telling us, and I’m now ssh’d in remotely. I’ll be back in front of the machine on Monday.

It looks like you're on an older OS version. That should work for Yosemite and later.

What version is your OS?

Hi Viv,

Someone else just reported this a couple days ago as well.

Check out https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=96662

Does the issue resolve itself if you log out and log back in?

Hi Jeremy,
Post by Jeremy Huddleston Sequoia
Hi Viv,
Someone else just reported this a couple days ago as well.
Check out https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=96662
Yup, that looks like the same problem alright.
Post by Jeremy Huddleston Sequoia
Does the issue resolve itself if you log out and log back in?
Just installed on a second machine (same OS version). Exact same problem and yes, it does work normally after logging out and back in again.

Let me know if I can give you any other useful information. I still have the original machine on which I haven’t yet logged out, but I can only give you info I can get via ssh until I’m back in front of it on Monday morning.

many thanks,
— Viv

Apologies for the slow reply, was away from the machine in question for longer than I expected.

launchctl print gui/`id -u`/org.macosforge.xquartz
launchctl: unknown subcommand “print"
It looks like you're on an older OS version. That should work for Yosemite and later.
What version is your OS?
Yeah, 10.9.5 (and a case-sensitive file system)

Run 'launchctl list org.macosforge.xquartz.startx’ instead

I’m not sure what this is supposed to do, so I tried launchctl list | grep startx and got
- 2 org.macosforge.xquartz.startx
however, I manually killed all the X11 running jobs before I left work today so that may be all the “2” is telling us, and I’m now ssh’d in remotely. I’ll be back in front of the machine on Monday.
ls -l /opt/X11/libexec
